# How Do I Prepare Soil for New Plantings?

Proper soil preparation is the single most important step before any new planting. In the Charlotte and Lake Norman area, dense clay soil is a common challenge — it compacts easily, drains poorly, and suffocates roots. Amending and grading your soil correctly before planting gives everything a real foundation to thrive.

## Test Before You Dig
